Mutianyu is a bit remote, compared to Badaling, which is more popular. We took Bus 916 to Huairou first, and then switch to a taxi big enough for 6 people(though we actually have four). I believe it took us nearly two hours, perhaps a bit more, to arrive at the area. We passed by a small village and there seemed to be some B&B in the village. I noticed that nearly every house got a solar water heater on the roofs, which indicated that we were at pretty high altitudes.
After arriving at the parking lot, we went for tickets and lunch.(see the left, my lunch was a plate of dumplings. the
worst dumplings I've ever had...) I thought it was okay to walk up to the Great Wall, after all, it only takes an hour, but then I was convinced and decided to take
the cable car. Later on, it proved to be a correct decision. It was just too HOT to walk an hour up. We first turned left and started from the 14th building and walked to the 17th/18th. Then we went back and got to the parking lot along a trail around the 8th building. The view was AWESOME up there. Despite the sun was pretty big, I still enojoyed being so close to nature and I finally have a chance to "exercise" a bit. Also, there was breeze blowing yesterday, so I should say the weather was pretty good, though it was still smoggy when I tried to look far into the distance. It was a shame that we didn't reach neither building 20 nor building 1. The view must be even better up there...
Anyway, I think I'll ask Angela to bring my backpack to Beijing, and then we can take some food and drink to have a picnic up there. The environment was just sooo nice. I love it!!
